Foot Tattoos

When it comes to defining foot tattoos, it is necessary to specify what a foot tattoo means to you. If the tattoos mean to you those applied on your feet, then you have a whole world of possibilities to choose. However, during the late 1960’s and early 1970s, some of the most popular tattoos represented foot or feet tattooed onto any part of the body.

Footprints tattoos were integrating part of the true hippy rebellious culture of youth in America, where the European term “hippy” adopted their spelling (hippie). During the hippie period, the foot represented the barefoot of the young people and their approach to nature. Later, feet came into play, representing different things according to their number and position, including sexual intercourse.

With the decline of hippies, tribal cultures began to rise up in the preference of the new generations, however foot tattoos remained, but taking on a different approach. Native American Indians and Mesoamerican ancient civilizations such as Maya and Aztec represented traveling to new lands by means of footprints.

Portrayed in codices and native art, those images were adopted as tattoos during the second half of the 20th century. Even today, foot tattoos are considered desirable tribal art, particularly for tattooing armbands, as occurred with the hippy manifestations after the return of the developing neo-hippies spiritualist movement of the 21st century.

On the other hand, foot tattoos can be painful, because your feet are one of the most sensitive areas of your body, but providing a unique flat place for wearing tattoos. In fact, many people consider these tattoos somewhat exotic, but very appealing and even sexy, particularly in women who also wear high heel shoes.

Foot tattoos require an artist specialized in this type of work because special machines could be needed, depending on the intricate or simple design chosen. Tattooists agree with this fact: if the tattoo will be applied over a bone, the procedure will definitely hurt more than other locations of the skin for tattooing.

A note of caution is often given before proceeding with foot tattoos. Designs and colors have no limitation, but there is a major incidence of ink migration due to shoes, sackings, or even climate. Ink generally spreads over time, blurring foot tattoo designs. Blurring may occur with any other tattoo but feet often need more re-inked drawn.

Furthermore, wearing foot tattoos and going around barefoot can lead to infection, shortly after and even after a while after the application. Because it takes from 2 to 3 weeks to recover after tattooing your feet, many other problems may arise during this lapse of time.
